March 2021 marked the official kick-off meetings of our new series of design talks: Future Visions. The project is the result of a collaboration amongst: London-based cultural agency VisionNow Media, Chinese media platform Together Design, creative and cultural magazine The Plus Paper. The talks proved a great success - creating a rich environment for conversation and engagement. In a time where many of us are feeling demotivated, the main aim of our talks was to create a virtual space in the Chinese market that would provide inspiration, joy and a sense of community for those with an interest in the wider design field. Overall, the talks proved to be highly beneficial and we are already in the process of planning our next theme…
International participation and engagement We brought together industry leaders in architecture and interior design as well as many others with varying specific design interests. By inviting a range of international participants we aimed to create a rich environment to encourage inspiring and productive conversations for all of those involved. We facilitated cross-cultural EU-China relations which we hope will lead to future networking between designers, manufacturers and investors and hopefully offer an economic boost post-pandemic. We invited guest speakers from both China and, the EU and UK to share their insights and experience in the design industry and discuss the challenges presented by the post COVID-19 era. An overall success for all those involved… Hosted by Xixi Zheng of VisionNow Media, the panelists included: Alireza Razavi from Studio Razavi, Alon Baranowitz and Irene Kronenberg from B+K, Erik Nissen Johanssen from Stylt And Kuang Ming (Ray) Chou from Vermilion Zhou Design Group. The guest speakers are diverse in background (from France, Sweden, China, and the Netherlands) but they focused on the same theme of hotel design and residential interiors. Through virtual personal talks, the designers offered insight into their own practice, passions, previous work and upcoming projects and provided invaluable insight into the world of design for our viewers. Following their informative and engaging presentations, we opened the panel discussion to have a conversation together - which included a set of prewritten questions as well as questions contributed by audience members. We covered a number of topics; audience members also asked about the role of courage in innovation and what is needed to reach this “breakthrough” of confidence as a designer. We also discussed the meaning of originality in our highly-saturated era and the techniques for finding an optimum work/life balance. We had around 70-80 attendees at each talk session, and all collaborators along with the designers and the audience members could not have been happier with how the talks went. With the March conversations proving such a success, our goals are to continue with the talks and watch how these conversations evolve. Stay tuned for information on our next events!
